Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Eighth in its First GNAC Championship

Wellesley, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team concluded the 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Wellesley Sports Center. The Falcons finished the three-day championship with a team score of 305 to place eighth overall out of nine teams.

Following the meet, Coach Lauren Pallone took the time to comment on how successful this weekend was for the team.

"These young women exceeded any and all expectations of a first year program. They have shown their character and determination in and out of the water and set a pretty solid standard for any future falcons." 


PRELIMINARY RESULTS

100 Yard Backstroke 

  • Elizabeth Sherry (Mechanicsville, V.A.) solidified her spot in the "A" final with an 8.88 second drop and a prelim time of 1:05.5.

200 Yard Freestyle 

  • Ana Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Hermosillo, M.X.) solidified her spot in the "A" final with a 19.4 second drop and a prelim time of 2:04.25.
  • Kiara Pabon (Hamden, Conn.) beat her best time by 51.94 with a final prelim time of 2:59.89.  

200 Yard Breaststroke 

  • Megan Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.) finished with a prelim time of 3:02.66.
  • Crisbeth Castañeda (Guatemala City, Guatemala) swam in shortly after, finishing with a prelim time of 3:20.67.
  • Arle Cruceta (Salcedo, Dominican Republic) finished with a prelim time of 4:14.32.

50 Yard Freestyle  

  • Gomez finished the event earning the top seed and a spot in the finals. Gomez also set a new school record with a prelim time of 25.36 

100 Yard Freestyle

  • Joselyn Streeto (New Haven, Conn.) swam personal best in the event, dropping seven seconds and finished with a prelim time of 39.71. 

50 Yard Breaststroke

  • Anderson tied for ninth place positioning herself in the "A" finals with a prelim time of 37.28.
  • Castañeda earned a personal best and a spot in the "B" finals with a prelim time of 39.95. 

FINAL RESULTS

100 Yard Backstroke 

  • Sherry set a new school record by 1.31 seconds, earning 16 points and finishing with a time of 1:03.74.

200 Yard Freestyle 

  • Gomez dropped 4.42 seconds and received 20 points, setting a new school record with a final time of 1:59.83. 

200 Yard Breaststroke 

  • Anderson placed 12th, finishing with a final time of 2:56.62 and dropping 6.04 seconds.
  • Castañeda came in 14th place, finishing with a final time of 3:18.79, dropping 1.88 seconds.
  • Cruceta placed 19th place points, dropping 6.22 seconds and finished with a final time of 4:14.32.
  • Collectively, the Falcons scored 18 points in this event. 

50 Yard Freestyle 

  • Gomez finished in second place, beating her personal best time by .33 seconds.
  • She finished with a final time of 25.03 and picked up 21 points for the Falcons. 

50 Yard Breaststroke

  • Anderson placed eighth finishing with a final time of 36.59, setting a new school record by .69 seconds.
  • Castañeda dropped .29 seconds to finish in 14th place, behind a final time of 39.66.
  • The Falcons picked up 22 points in this event. 

400 Yard Freestyle Relay

  • The relay consisting of Gomez, Castañeda, Anderson, and Sherry finished in seventh place with a final time of 4:01.81, setting a new school record by 29.94 seconds and earned 32 points. 


UP NEXT 
The women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Thursday, February 13 as the Falcons compete in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships. This meet is an all day event and will take place at the University of Rhode Island Tootell Aquatic Center in Kingston, R.I.
