Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Elms in Home Dual Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team picked up a dual-meet victory, 94-42, as well as tallied earned first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 100 breaststroke in a home meet against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Elms College Saturday afternoon inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center Swimming Pool.

Lucia Gutierrez Gomez (Sonora, Mexico) recorded an impressive day for the Falcons as she won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Maria Estrada (Guatemala City, Guatemala) also took home a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. 

The group of Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.), Estrada, Gutierrez Gomez, and Sophie Olander (Amston, Conn.) kicked off the day by placing first in the 200 Medley Relay.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

200 Medley Relay  

  • The quartet of Oliver, Estrada, Gutierrez Gomez, and Olander finished first with a time of 2:13.70. 

1000 Freestyle  

  • Olander completed the event with a time of 13.14.19. 

200 Freestyle 

  • Oliver finished the event with a time of 2:36.05.

50 Freestyle 

  • Gutierrez Gomez claimed a first-place finish with a time of 27.45.
  • Camila Gordillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) placed third with a time of 28.64. 
  • Crisnelly Martinez-Tejeda (Stratford, Conn.) finished fourth with a time of 33.19. 

100 IM 

  • Estrada swam a time of 1:10.02. 

100 Freestyle 

  • Gutierrez Gomez finished first for the third time of the day behind a time of 1:02.26.
  • Megan Anderson (Levittown, N.Y.) followed closed behind Gutierrez Gomez with a time of 1:04.81, placing second.
  • Martinez-Tejeda came in third with a time of 1:35.89.

100 Backstroke

  • Oliver placed second with a time of 1:24.38.

500 Freestyle 

  • Olander finished second with a time of 6:25.89.

200 Freestyle Relay 

  • The foursome of Olander, Oliver, Gutierrez Gomez, and Estrada finished second with a time of 2:01.59. 

UP NEXT
The Falcons return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 21, for a road dual meet against Gordon College. The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
