MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming team finished in seventh place with 146 points at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships on the campus of Wesleyan University on Saturday.
A number of school records were broken during the event.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.), Sophie Olander (Amston, Conn.), Maria Estrada (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Silvia Valeria Avila Estrada (Zapopan, Mexico) set a new school record with a time of 1:50.97. The same relay team also set a school record in the 200-yard individual medley relay with a time of 2:06.86, earning the team 16 points in the event.
Maria Estrada broke the school record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:27.42 and earned the team five points during the event.
Avila Estrada broke three school records, including a time of 4:55.73 in the 400-yard individual medley, the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.19) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.53) in which she finished in eighth place. She earned a team-best 60 points during the meet.
There were 14 personal best times set during the event, including Olander's time of 6:36.86 in the 500-yard freestyle. See more personal best times here.
Amherst won the team event with 972.5 points.
