
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Silvia Valeria Avila Estrada (Zapopan, Mexico) and Sophie Olander (Amston, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's swimming team were both named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-District Team.
It is the second time Olander has made the CSC All-District Team and the first time for Avila Estrada.
Olander is pursuing a degree in business management while Estrada is majoring in psychology.
In the pool, Avila Estrada had a banner year, becoming the first swimmer in Albertus history to win Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year and making the All-GNAC team after winning the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 400-yard individual medley while finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle.
Olander set personal bests in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard individual medley while winning the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle in a dual meet against Western New England and the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle against SUNY Delhi.
Avila Estrada was also advanced to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced on April 22.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Swimming & Diving teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
