St. Joe's of Brooklyn Edges Falcons 5-4 in Women's Tennis

Na'Tasha Mesidor came from behind to win No. 2 singles on Sunday to lead the Albertus Magnus women's tennis team in a close match-up against St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. The Falcons fell 5-4 on the afternoon but played in their best match of 2011.

Mesidor went down 6-1 in the first set of her No. 2 singles before battling back to win the second set 6-4. In the tiebreaker, Mesidor took an 8-2 lead before winning the set 10-7 over Kelly McNamee.

Malika Grant and Gina D'Agostino both went undefeated on the day as Grant won No. 5 singles over St. Joseph's Aleena DeJesus by scores of 6-2, 6-1. D'Agostino won No. 6 singles over Danielle Marino 6-1, 6-3.

Grant and D'Agostino partnered up in No. 3 doubles to defeat Marino and DeJesus 8-1.

St. Joseph's Kristen Bauman took No. 1 singles with a pair of 6-2 sets over Sandybell Anorga, while Darcy Crimi battled with Albertus' Chantal Simmons to a 6-3, 6-2 win. Patricia Nealon took No. 4 singles for the Lady Bears, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Rebecca Weinberger.

Anorga and Mesidor dropped a tough 8-5 match in No. 1 singles to Crimi and Bauman, while Simmons and Weinberger lost in No. 2 doubles 8-1.

The Falcons will finish the 2011 season on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to the College of New Rochelle for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
