New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team blanked visiting Vaughn, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Celentano Courts.

The Falcons (2-1) won their second straight at home, while the Warriors (0-1) lost their season opener.

Albertus Magnus was dominant in doubles action, taking the matches at No. 1 and No. 2, 8-0. Vaughn was unable to field a full roster and forfeited the match at No. 3. At No. 1, senior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) teamed with sophomore Alicia Weaver (Bethel, Conn.) for a victory. At No. 2, the freshmen tandem of Cayce Andrews (Hamden, Conn.) and Paige Williams (Orange County, Va.) scored their first win of the autumn.

In singles play, the Falcons dropped just one game en route to the triumph. At No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, Weaver, sophomore Izza Sabino (Cheshire, Conn.), junior Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman Nalelly Magana (East Haven, Conn.) all won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1, Velazco scored her first singles win of the fall.

It is a quick turnaround for Albertus Magnus as the team returns to action on Sunday, September 25, with a road non-conference clash against Molloy that is slated to get underway at 1:00 pm.
