Women's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match with St. Joseph (Conn.)

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's tennis team fell to visiting Saint Joseph (Conn.), 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Celentano Courts.

The Falcons (4-6, 2-4 GNAC) dropped their second straight conference match, while the Bluejays (6-7, 3-3 GNAC) earned the key league win to move into fourth-place in the GNAC standings ahead of Albertus Magnus.

In doubles play, the guests got off to a quick start and took all three for an early edge. The closest contest was at No. 1 as the Albertus Magnus tandem of senior Zaida Velazco (Dominican Republic) and junior Kelsea Wildman (Hamden, Conn.) fell, 8-5.

The contest was closer then the final score indicated as the Bluejays won four of the six singles matches in three sets.

Albertus Magnus has a quick turnaround as the squad returns to action tomorrow, October 16, with a non-conference home bout versus New Rochelle. Prior to the match with the Blue Angels, the Falcons will honor senior Zaida Velazco for her contributions to the program over the last four years. Last October, AMC raced past CNR, 9-0, on the road.
