New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match 3-0 to visiting Simmons College Saturday afternoon at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
The Falcons (2-6, 0-1 GNAC) lost their first GNAC match on the young season while Simmons (2-4, 1-0 GNAC ) netted their first GNAC win.
Simmons defeated the host Falcons 3-0 with game scores of 25-14, 25-5, 25-16 respectively.
Freshman outside hitter Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) led the charge for the hosts with a team high 4 kills to go along with 1 assist and six digs. In the middle, junior Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) paced the Falcons with 6 assists and 8 digs. Junior Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) led the way with a game-high 16 digs.
The Sharks attack was led senior middle blocker Abby Hart (Westfield, Mass.) with 14 kills and a match-high .448 hitting percentage, while senior outside hitter Kat Guillotte (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) each added six kills each. In the middle freshman setter Carly-Wanner-Hyde (Newington, Conn.) had an impressive 28 helpers. Junior Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) was effective at the service line with 10 aces as well for the visitors.
Albertus Magnus returns to action Thursday, September 22 as they look to avenge a heartbreaking 5 set loss to in-state non-conference opponent Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut.
