Women's Volleyball Weekly Preview: Mitchell & Norwich

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team went 0-2 last week, falling on the road in non-conference action to Eastern Connecticut State during the week before dropping a 3-0 decision at home against Simmons in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both squads. Ana Gomez led the Falcon charge offensively last week, while freshman libero Nashalie Bayona continued her strong start to the autumn.

This Week: The Falcons have a pair of matches this week, traveling to face in-state rival Mitchell on Thursday before hosting Norwich in GNAC play on Friday evening. After opening the year with back-to-back victories, the Falcons have dropped seven straight games.

Earlier This Fall Versus the Mariners: Mitchell erased a 2-1 deficit to take the final two games en route to a 3-2 victory in New Haven. Freshman outside hitter Ashley David led the charge for the hosts with a match and career-high 13 kills to go along with two assists and one service ace. Senior outside hitter Amber Cohens continued her strong play with eight kills and a match-best nine service aces.

Last Year Against the Cadets: Albertus Magnus shutout Norwich, 3-0, for the first GNAC win for head coach Vanessa Rosario. As a team, the Falcons had 29 kills, nine service aces and 74 digs. Gomez led the way with nine kills for AMC, while Cohens chipped in six kills. Defensively, Marielis Muriel had 16 digs for the Falcons as well.

NOTES:
- Offensively, David and Gomez are tied for the team lead with 56 kills, while Cohens has 53 of her own. In the middle, Muriel has 155 assists. At the service line, Muriel has a team-high 19 aces and Cohens has 17.
- Bayona averaged 2.83 digs per set as the Falcons dropped a pair of contests last week. She opened the week with eight digs in a three-game setback at Eastern Connecticut before having nine in GNAC play against Simmons over the weekend. On the year, she leads the team with 100 digs.
- The team has four returners and five newcomers this season.
- Seven of the team's first eight games will take place outside of New Haven. Last year, the squad picked up four wins away from home.
