New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team defeated visiting Purchase College, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center. The Falcons played their strongest match of the fall and scored a 25-13, 25-10 and 25-16 victory over the Panthers.

Albertus Magnus set a new season-best with a .286 attack percentage, while also racking up 32 kills, 21 service aces and 53.0 total points. The Falcons (3-9) snapped a nine-game losing streak with the victory, while the Panthers (0-12) suffered their 12th setback in a row.

The balanced Falcon attack saw three different players record seven or more kills led by freshman outside hitter Ashley David (West Islip, N.Y.) with a game-high 11. Junior middle hitter Jacqueline Gonzalez (Ansonia, Conn.) had her strongest game as Falcon, recording eight kills thanks to an impressive .375 attack percentage. Junior middle hitter Ana Gomez (New Haven, Conn.) continued her steady play with seven kills, while senior outside hitter Amber Cohens (Hamden, Conn.) chipped in four of her own. In the middle, setters Marielis Muriel (New Haven, Conn.) and Jesselle Guzman (Santa Teresa, N.M.) teamed for 25 assists.

At the service line, David had six aces for the hosts and Gomez registered four as well. Gomez also had one of her best defensive games of the fall, recording eight digs.

It was a two-headed attack for Purchase as freshman Isis Gonzalez and sophomore Kaitlyn Pillig had seven of the team's eight kills. Pillig did it all for the guests as she also had four assists and four digs. Defensively, Gonzalez led the way with eight digs and one solo block.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, September 29, with a road non-conference clash against regional rival Medgar Evers. Last autumn, the Falcons topped the Cougars, 3-1, in a neutral site showdown.
