Women's Volleyball Weekly Preview: Mount Holyoke, Anna Maria & Saint Joseph's (Maine)

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team went 1-2 last week, defeating York at home in non-conference action before losing to Rivier and Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match over the weekend. Albertus Magnus enters the eighth week of the regular season with a 6-15 overall record and an 0-7 mark in league play. The victory against the Cardinals last week was the second of the season for the Falcons. In the win, the duo of freshman outside hitter Ashley David and junior middle hitter Ana Gomez combined for 13 kills, eight service aces and 24 digs.

This Week: The Falcons have a trio of matches this week, hosting Mount Holyoke in midweek, non-conference action before heading to Massachusetts for a GNAC tri-match featuring Saint Joseph's (Maine) and host Anna Maria.

Last Year Against the AMCATS: Anna Maria topped Albertus Magnus, 3-1, in New Haven last fall. The AMCATS took the first set and the Falcons answered with a win in game to knot it at one. The guests would respond with two convincing wins in games three and four. Amber Cohens led the offensive charge for Albertus Magnus with eight kills.

Last Autumn Against the Monks: Saint Joseph's (Maine) scored a resounding, 3-0, win in New Haven versus Albertus Magnus last season. The Monks kept the Falcons score in single digits in all three games en route to the win. Gomez and Cohens accounted for seven of the 11 AMC kills in the loss.  

NOTES:
- Freshman outside hitter Ashley David in having a stellar first fall on campus, leading the team with 133 kills, 1.99 kills per set and 174 digs. She also has amassed 14 assists, 34 service aces, while averaging 2.60 digs per set and accounting for 169.0 points.
- David is one of three players with more than 100 kills with Gomez totaling 123 and Cohens recording 119. In the middle, Marielis Muriel leads the way with 292 assists and freshman Jesselle Guzman has added 111 of her own. At the service line, Cohens has a team-best 46 aces. Defensively, David has 174digs and classmate Nashalie Bayona is second on the team with 165.  
- All six of the team's wins have come in non-conference play this fall. At home, the team is 3-4. In true road contests the squad is 2-7 and in neutral site matches the Falcons are 1-4.  
- The team has four returners and five newcomers this season.
- Seven of the team's first eight games will take place outside of New Haven. Last year, the squad picked up four wins away from home.
