Volleyball Captures First Win of 2021, Sweeps Lesley, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball earned its first win of the 2021 season with a convincing straight-set triumph over Lesley University on Thursday evening inside "The Nest" at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center. Head Coach Ashley David picks up her first victory at her alma mater.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Falcons came out on fire in the first set, out-hitting the visitors by a .400 to -.250 margin. 
  • Albertus won the first eight points of the match, five of which came off of Jaiden Williams' (Orange, Conn.) aces. 
  • The second set mirrored the first, as Albertus again out-hit the Lynx by a .429 to -.500. 
  • AMC won nine of the first 10 points in the second set behind another strong Williams' serving performance. 
  • Albertus took the third set behind a .154 to -.250 advantage in attack percentage. 
  • A majority of the Falcons' offense came from the service line, as the home squad tallied a whopping 30 aces. 
  • Williams led all players with eight aces. 
  • Williams finished the night with a match-high 11 assists. 
  • As she has done much of the season, freshman Elayna Beutel (Prospect, Conn.) paced the Falcons with four kills. 
  • Beutel tallied a perfect 1.000 kill percentage. 
  • Freshman Gabriel Clay (Enfield, Conn.) finished with a season-high six aces. 
  • Clay and Taina Vargas (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the home team with two digs each.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Albertus has not tallied 30 aces in a match in over a decade. 
  • AMC had six different players record multiple kills in the match.  
  • The win is the first of head coach Ashley David's coaching career. 
  • Albertus had seven players record service aces in the match. 
  • Tailor Coward (Hamden, Conn.) and Yarelis Torres (East Haven, Conn.) made their collegiate debuts tonight. 
  • Williams set a new career-high with eight aces. 
  • Clay posted a season-high six aces.
