Volleyball Drops Five-Set Barnburner to Saint Joseph (LI)

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team suffered a grueling five-set home setback to the Golden Eagles of Saint Joseph (LI) College on Thursday evening inside "The Nest" at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Golden Eagles went ahead one set to zero behind a .323 attack percentage in the opening frame.
  • Albertus answered by taking the second set, 25-22, with a .111 to .088 advantage in attack percentage.
  • The Falcons hit their peak in the third set, hitting to the tune of .217 to win the frame convincingly, 25-15.
  • Unfortunately for the home squad, the Golden Eagles began to rally, taking the fourth and fifth sets to steal the match.
  • Elayna Beutel (Prospect, Conn.) continued her torrid start to the season with a season-high 13 kills on a team-leading .381 kill percentage.
  • Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.) and Ivanna Sanfeliz (Dorado, Puerto Rico) both finished with seven kills.
  • Freshman Rachael Pellegrini (Clinton, Conn.) dished out a season-high 23 assists on the team's 33 kills.
  • Joismar Avilés (Hatillo, Puerto Rico) finished with a team-high 11 digs.
  • Kalman and Sanfeliz each had four blocks.
