Women's Volleyball Bested in Both Ends of Tri-Match at St. Joseph's (L.I.)

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team fell in both ends of a road tri-match hosted by St. Joseph's (L.I.) University on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons were bested in the opener by a 3-1 final score to Hartwick College before dropping a straight-set match to the Golden Eagles in the nightcap.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
• Hartwick stormed out of the gates to take the first set by a 25-6 margin.
• The Falcons stepped up in a big way in the second set, topping the Hawks, 25-21, to even the match at 1-1.
• However, Hartwick proved too much for AMC, as the Hawks won both the third and fourth sets to seal a 3-1 neutral-site victory.
Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.) led the way for the Falcons in the opener with a team-high six kills to go along with seven digs.
Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) had an excellent defensive match, tying a season-high with 11 digs.
Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.) was also strong defensively, as she tied a match-high with a season-best three blocks.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
• The Golden Eagles got the better of their aerial foes in a tight first set, winning by a 25-20 margin.
• Albertus did slightly better in the second set, rallying multiple times before owning an 18-17 advantage.
• Unfortunately for the Falcons, St. Joseph's battled back and took the set, 25-21.
• The match was decided in the third, when the Golden Eagles again came out on top in an evenly-contested frame, winning 25-20 to earn a home 3-0 victory.
Rachael Pellegrini (Clinton, Conn.) orchestrated the offense in the nightcap, as she finished with a team-high 10 assists.
• Pellegrini also collected a career-high 12 digs.
Elizabeth Lynch (Stratford, Conn.) finished the second match with a team-high three blocks.

The Falcons will have off until Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they are slated to play Curry College in non-conference action at 7 p.m. at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
