Women's Volleyball Stumbles against Lasell and JWU in Road Tri-Match

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of straight-set Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) losses on Saturday afternoon at a road tri-match at Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University. The Falcons were bested by Lasell University in the opener before falling in the nightcap to JWU.

MATCH 1 VS. Lasell

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
• The Lasers went ahead 2-0 after winning the first set, 25-15, and the second set, 25-12.
• Albertus battled back in the third set, as it trailed by just three points, 20-17, late in the frame.
• Unfortunately for AMC, the Lasers maintained their edge and earned a straight-set victory with a 25-20 win in the third.
Peyton Davis (North Haven, Conn.) led the Falcons on offense and defense with four kills and 12 digs.
Rachael Pellegrini (Clinton, Conn.) orchestrated the offense with 10 assists on the team's 13 kills.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
• The Wildcats were at their best in the first and third sets, winning the first 25-11 and the second 25-6.
• Albertus almost pulled off a thrilling comeback in the second set, winning five consecutive points to turn an eight-point deficit, 24-16, into a three-point hole, 24-21.
• However, the comeback came up just short as a setting error sealed a 25-21 win for JWU.
Joismar Avilés (Hatillo, Puerto Rico) ended the second match with a team-high five kills.
• Pelligrini tallied nine assists in the nightcap, finishing with all but one of the team's helpers.
• Davis again led the Falcons in digs, tallying nine against the Wildcats.
Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.) finished the match with three aces and one block.
Elizabeth Lynch (Stratford, Conn.) also recorded a block against JWU, giving her one in both matches.

UP NEXT
The Falcons return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 25, for their final home match of the season against Elms College. The contest is slated to start at 7 PM inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center gym. Before the match, the Albertus Magnus College women's volleyball team will honor its three-member senior class.
