FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College volleyball team lost a 3-0 match to Fitchburg State in non-conference play on Tuesday evening.

Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia) had a team-high nine kills, while Nathalie Wallace (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had six kills. Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 18 assists and Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.) had 23 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Falcons held a brief 1-0 lead to open the first set after a kill from Yarieshka Sierra (Hartford, Conn.). However, it would be the only lead they held as Fitchburg took the lead for good at 9-8 after the two teams tied six times beforehand. Fitchburg led by as much as 18-10, but Albertus was able to cut its deficit to 19-17 behind two kills from Pelaez and one from Wallace. Fitchburg finished on a 6-2 run to end the set. Pelaez finished with six kills in the set. Sariah Dyer had five kills for Fitchburg.
• Albertus held an early 3-1 lead in the second set, which opened with an ace from Alyssa Valentine. Fitchburg would then take control, going on an 11-1 run to take a 12-4 lead. Albertus responded with a 6-2 run of its own behind kills from Gordon, Yarelis Torres (East Haven, Conn.), Matheus and an ace from Joismar Aviles (Hatillo, Conn.). Albertus did not get closer the rest of the way. Zdru had two aces in the set.
• Albertus held its only lead of the third set after a kill from Nyanna Richards (Bridgeport, Conn.) made it a 3-2 game. Fitchburg would score the next two points, going up 4-3. Albertus did not lead again in the set, but were able to tie the game at 17-17 after a kill from Emma Fallon (Harwinton, Conn.). The Falcons finished with 11 kills in the set as Aviles had three in the set while Pelaez, Fallon and Wallace each had two. Gordon assisted on all 11 kills.
