NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College volleyball team dispatched of Lehman College in straight sets as the Falcons won their final home regular season game of the season in The Nest on Thursday evening.
Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) had 23 assists and four kills to go with a career-high 10 aces. Paula Matheus (Tunja-Boyaca, Colombia) led Albertus with nine kills and two blocks. Joismar Aviles (Hatillo, Puerto Rico) and Majo Pelaez (Armenia, Colombia) each had five kills and Yarelis Torres (East Haven, Conn.) and Nathalie Wallace (Rocky Hill, Conn.) each had four kills.
Prior to the game Aviles and Torres were honored as part of senior night.
The Falcons 13 wins on the season are the most since 2017 and the second most wins all-time in a season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a tightly-contested first set which saw seven ties, Lehman began to pull away, taking a 22-17 lead late in the set. However, the Falcons battled back behind three kills from Gordon and an ace from Aviles to tie the set at 23-23. Lehman regained the lead on the next point and looked poised to take the set, but back-to-back errors gave Albertus set point and Gordon delivered with an ace for the final point to give the Falcons the 1-0 match lead. Gordon had all four of her kills in the first set. Matheus had three kills.
- Albertus jumped out to a 7-2 lead to take control of the second set as Matheus had two kills over the opening nine points. The Lightning battled back to 8-6, but the Falcons scored the next five that included an ace and kill from Pelaez to make it a 13-6 game. Once again, Lehman nipped at its deficit to get it to four at 14-10, but a 5-1 run gave Albertus breathing room at 19-11. Pelaez had three kills over the last six Albertus points, including the final point to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
- The Falcons left little doubt in the third set, scoring the first eight points as Gordon had four aces during the opening run. The Falcons extended its lead to 14-4 before three straight points from the Lightning that included two aces from Laura Pinales. It was the closest Lehman got the rest of the way as four more aces from Gordon and two kills from Alondra Acosta gave the Falcons the set and the match.
