  • DeCarli named Conference SID of the Year

    Albertus Magnus College Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director Kristen DeCarli was voted the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Sports Information Director of the Year. The announcement was made by GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh in advance of the 2012 GNAC Professional Development Seminar on August 7 and 8 in Boston, Massachusetts. DeCarli will accept her award on the final day of the seminar.

    If you do a web search today of Albertus Magnus College basketball the names Ray Askew, Darius Watson and Bryon Reaves pop up in the results. In the last three years, the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team has put its name on the map, winning two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) titles, being ranked as high as 15th in the Nation and making two trips to the prestigious Division III NCAA Tournament.

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced the All-Academic Team for the 2011-12 school year. Twenty-two student-athletes from Albertus Magnus College were among the 618 members of the Academic Team from 14 institutions in the conference.

    The Albertus Magnus Department of Athletics had a very successful 2011-12 year, producing two GNAC Regular-Season Championship teams, one GNAC Tournament Championship team, two All-Americans and 33 All-Conference Team selections.

    At the 2012 Athletics Banquet on Tuesday, May 8, the Albertus Magnus Department of Athletics presented three student-athletes with the honor of Athlete of the Year as Samantha Farley (Shelton, Conn.) was named the Female Athlete of the Year, while both Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) and Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) were named Male Athlete of the Year.
  • Celebrate Frankie’s Birthday/Student-Athlete Appreciation Day

    Albertus Magnus College will celebrate the birthday of its mascot, Frankie the Falcon, in honor of Student-Athlete Appreciation Day on April 4. Student-Athlete Appreciation Day is honored annually on April 6 but with the day falling on Good Friday, Frankie’s birthday will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4 at noon in the DeDominicis Dining Hall.
  • Oliver Chosen as a Finalist for the Glenn Robinson Award

    Fifth-year head coach Mitch Oliver of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team has been named one of the 10 finalists for the 2012 Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year award. The Glenn Robinson Award is presented annually to the top Division III men’s basketball coach in the nation.

Selected and voted by member coaches of the NABC, the student-athletes chosen for All-America status represent the finest basketball players across the country.

    For the second-consecutive year, Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team was recognized by being named a D3hoops.com All-Region selection. For the first time in his career, Askew earned a spot on the All-Northeast Region First Team after being named to the Second Team a year ago.

    Despite a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds from senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.), the No. 16 Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team fell to No. 4 Middlebury 89-73 in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,200 in NCAA Tournament Second Round action. The Falcons finished the year with an impressive 28-2 overall record after their best season in program history.

    The Albertus Magnus men’s basketball team received a No. 16 ranking in this week’s D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. This is the fourth-straight week that the Falcons have been ranked among the top Division III teams in the country. With their new ranking, the Falcons drop one spot from where they stood a week ago.

    Fifth-year head coach Mitch Oliver has been named the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 24-1 record during the 2011-12 regular-season.

    Albertus Magnus senior Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) has been named the 2011-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year as well as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, as announced by the league office. Askew, who became the Falcons’ all-time leader in both points and rebounds this season, joins teammate Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) on the GNAC All-Conference First Team as well. Additionally, Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) earned Third Team honors, while Mitch Oliver was named Coach of the Year.
