Baseball Weekly Preview: Western Connecticut & Suffolk

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College baseball team went 2-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, sweeping a doubleheader versus Rivier at home before dropping a pair at Saint Joseph's (Maine) over the weekend. The Falcons enter the final weekend of the regular season with an 11-18 overall record and a 5-7 mark in league play. In the sweep of the Raiders, the Falcons scored a pair of extra-inning, walk-off wins. Albertus Magnus scored its second walk-off win of the spring courtesy of a one-out sac fly to centerfield by freshman outfielder Tyriq Harris in the opener and classmate Justen Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap.

This Week: Albertus Magnus travels to play in-state rival Western Connecticut in a midweek doubleheader before closing out conference play with a doubleheader at home versus Suffolk over the weekend. Prior to game one against the Rams, the Falcons will honor the eight members of the Class of 2016 for their contributions to the program.

Last Spring Against the Colonials: The two squads split a doubleheader with Western taking the opener, 3-2, and Albertus Magnus scoring a 5-4 triumph in the finale. In the win for the Falcons, Tyler Robertson recorded two hits and Mike Hughes tossed five innings to earn the win as AMC took advantage of three WCSU errors. In game one, Justin Poirier collected two hits and both Falcon RBIs in a setback.

Last Year Versus Suffolk: The Rams went 3-0 versus the Falcons last spring. Suffolk swept a regular season doubleheader at home against Albertus Magnus before defeating AMC, 10-5, in the opening round of the GNAC Tournament.

Albertus Notes
- Junior lefty Tom Moore become the first Falcon to earn weekly honors this season after being tabbed as the GNAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA out of the bullpen last week, striking out four (no walks) in 6.0 innings. In Game 1 of a doubleheader versus Rivier, Moore tossed a scoreless inning to earn his second win. In Game 2, Moore threw five scoreless innings and scattered three hits to pick up the victory. He struck out three hitters in relief as Albertus Magnus erased a two-run deficit to rally for the win.
- Robertson was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll after hitting .357 (5-for-14) with a .438 OBP in a 2-2 week. He scored twice, doubled, tripled and drove in a pair. On the spring, he is hitting .256 with 13 RBIs, 23 hits and 17 runs scored.
- As a team, the Falcons are hitting .259 with 119 runs scored, 218 hits, 103 RBIs, 25 stolen bases and 20 sacrifice hits. On the bump, the squad has a 6.77 ERA. Defensively, AMC has a .932 fielding percentage having made 64 errors in 29 games.
