Hamden, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team ended the 2016 regular season by splitting a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with Suffolk on Saturday afternoon at Rochford Field. The host Falcons took the opener, 4-3, and the visiting Rams scored a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.

Albertus Magnus enters the post-season with a 13-20 overall record and a 6-8 mark in conference play, while Suffolk moved to 30-10 on the year and 11-3 in league tilts. The Falcons will begin the GNAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and the Rams earned the No. 2 seed and a bye to the second round.

Prior to game one, Albertus Magnus honored the eight members of the Class of 2016 on the baseball team for their contributions to the baseball team.

Game One
Albertus Magnus scored their third walk-off win of the spring at home in conference play in the opener. With the bases loaded and two outs in the home half of the seventh, senior outfielder Ted Gravel (Morris, Conn.) worked a walk to bring classmate Tyler Robertson (Cheshire,Conn.) trotting home with the game-winning run.

AMC junior reliever Dan Zarnik (Hamden, Conn.) racked up his second win of the year for the hosts, tossing three scorelessinning of relief. Classmate Christopher Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) tossed the first five innings for the hosts and allowed three earned runs.

On the opposite side, Cal Carroll was saddled with the loss for the guests. Worth Walrod got the start and a no-decision for Suffolk after working six innings and fanning six hitters.

At the dish, AMC senior Justin Poirier (Meriden, Conn.) registered three of the team's six hits.

For the Rams, Seth Coiley and Kevin Belskie both registered two hits apiece.

Suffolk opened the scoring in the second inning as Belskie delivered an RBI single and an inning later the guests took a 2-0 edge courtesy of a run-scoring single by Drew Carter.

In the bottom half of the third, Albertus Magnus knotted the game at two thanks to back-to-back RBI doubles by Robertson and Poirier.

In the fourth, Rob Marks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the guests a 3-2 advantage before AMC tied the game again one inning later courtesy of an RBI single from senior Mike Saia (Bridgeport, Conn.).

Game Two
In the finale, Suffolk pitchers Kevin Sinatra and Jake Frasca kept the Albertus Magnus bats off balance all afternoon en route to the win. Sinatra threw the first six innings and struck out three hitters to earn his seventh win of the spring and Frasca pitched a scoreless seventh for his first save.

AMC junior Michael Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) was the tough-luck loser for the hosts, throwing five innigns and allowing just one earned run. In arguably his best start of the season, he fanned one hitter and scattered four hits. Lefty Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.) threw a scoreless sixth for Albertus Magnus and classmate Jon Criscio (East Haven, Conn.) pitched a perfect seventh for the hosts.

Suffolk wasted no time righting the wrong of the opener in the first inning of the closer as Belskie hit an inside the par solo, two-out homer to center to put the Rams on the scoreboard.

The Falcons knotted the score in the bottom of the second as freshman Robert Perazzell (Wolcott, Conn.) came around to score on a Suffolk error, but it would be the lone run the hosts would score as the Rams' held them the rest of the way.

After a quiet third on either side, Jake Frasca's sacrificed himself with score Belskie and give Suffolk a 2-1 lead. The Rams' stretched their advantage to two runs in the top of the fifth. Matt Brenner capitalized on an error by the Falcons' second baseman, before Belskie's triple plated Coiley for the 4-1 final.

Belskie's 3-for-3, two-RBI, two-run effort at the plate paced Suffolk's offense in Game 2.

Albertus Magnus opens the post-season on Tuesday, May 3, with a road clash against fourth-seeded Johnson & Wales at 6:00 pm. The Wildcats took both ends of a doubleheader in the Ocean State versus the Falcons earlier this spring.
