HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons were kept off the board early, as Wildcats pitcher Ryan Depatie threw a scoreless first inning, the lone base runner coming on a fielding error to the Falcons' Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.). Falcons starter, Ike Flannery (Wethersfield, Conn.), responded with his own scoreless half inning to complete the first.

The Falcon bats were silenced in the top of the third before the Wildcats' offense exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the frame and chased Flannery from the game. Senior hurler Dan DeBartolomeo (Fairfield, Conn.) replaced Flannery on the bump with two outs and struck out the Wildcats' Justin Perez to stymie the rally and send the teams into the top half of the fourth, with the Falcons trailing 6-0.

Down on the scoreboard, the Falcons vainly tried to spark the offense. Senior Justen Rodriguez (Waterbury, Conn.) ripped a one-out single up the middle to get the Falcons on the bags before a walk from Eduardo Pena (Hamden, Conn.) put two men on base for the blue-and-white. JWU's Depatie wriggled out of the jam unscathed and recorded the next two outs to keep the visitors off the board.

The Falcons' offense showed some life in the fifth. With one out, junior flyhawk Nhasean Murphy (Manchester, Conn.) delivered a hard single down the right-field line to get the Falcons' offensive machine started. A tricky pick-off throw from Depatie erased Murphy from the bags, before Joseph Matthews (Anaheim, Calif.) and Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) worked two-out walks, putting two men aboard with two outs. Warren's efforts were in vain, as the third baseman flew out to left-field to end the Falcon threat.

The Wildcats didn't let up on offense, scoring another pair of runs in the fifth to take a commanding 8-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth.

The Falcons' at-bat started off with an error before the Wildcats recorded two quick outs. A walk to Kozlowski put runners on first and second for Caden Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) who scorched a missile into the right-center field gap to drive in the Falcons first run and send Kozloski to third base. The effort was short-lived, as Murphy flew out in the next at-bat to end the inning.

The Wildcats threatened again in the bottom half of the sixth, putting runners on the corners with two outs before freshman right-hander Nick Kownack (Schenectady, N.Y.) induced a fly-out to left to end the inning and send the teams into the seventh.

Despite the seven-run differential, 8-1, the Falcons did not go quietly. A Matthews walk got the offense rolling before he was forced out at second on the fielder's choice by Clark. A Warren single into right field sent Clark to third and filled the corners for the Falcons. Rodriguez followed up with a single into left to score the run, cutting the lead to six, 8-2, and sending Warren to second base. A walk to Pena loaded the bases for Sullivan, who delivered the RBI infield single to keep the sacks filled. Ty Netto (Derby, Conn.) pinch hit for Kozlowski and promptly singled into center, scoring two and putting Sullivan on third for Cloutier. Freshman Zack Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) pinch ran for Sullivan and quickly scored when Cloutier reached on the error. With runners on first and second, and the Falcons trailing by two, 8-6, Murphy reached on a fielder's choice and sent Netto to third. Down to their final out with runners on the corners, junior infielder Matthews stepped up to the plate and drove a pitch to deep center field that was snared by the defender to end the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats came out swinging in the bottom of the first against the fifth-year southpaw, Shawn McFeggan (Anaheim, CA). A leadoff single put a man on first before McFeggan induced a pair of fly-outs. The Wildcats' Kevin Duffy singled through the 5-6 hole, putting runners on the corners with two outs. A stolen base by Duffy set the table for a two-run RBI Wildcats' single before McFeggan got a groundout to end the inning.

The Falcons' offense picked up some steam in the top of the third. After a lead-off strikeout, Albertus worked a pair of walks to put runners on first and second for Warren, who promptly bounced a single into right field for the one-run RBI. A walk to Pena loaded the bases, but Wildcats' pitcher Steve Rocchio got Clark to foul out to the catcher for the final out.

The Wildcats' offense exploded in the bottom of the third inning as the hosts scored four runs behind three hits and a pair of Falcons errors, extending their lead to five, 6-1.

In the top of the fourth, Albertus made two quick outs, before Murphy roped a double into left field to put a runner in scoring position for the Falcons. A Wildcat error scored Murphy from second before Rocchio struck out Netto to neutralize the Falcon threat and send the teams to the bottom of the fourth, with the Falcons down 6-2.

The Wildcats added another pair of runs to their lead in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with one out. A strikeout preceded a two-run RBI Wildcat single before Nick Miller (Union, N.J.) struck out the last hitter to end the inning.

The Falcons were retired quickly in the top of the fifth before the Wildcats' offense went on another tear. A lead-off double and a fielder's choice put runners on first and second with no outs, before a Falcon error and a Wildcat single scored both runs to give the hosts the 10-2 advantage.

The Falcons were unable to answer the call in the top of the sixth, going down 1-2-3. Miller made up for it in the bottom of the sixth, throwing his own 1-2-3 inning on a trio of ground ball outs.

Down by eight runs and in their final at-bats, the Falcons were retired in order to end the game.
