NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The fourth-seeded Albertus Magnus College baseball team saw its season come to a close with a 6-2 loss to the top-seeded AMCATS of Anna Maria College Thursday afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals. BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED
The AMCATS took an early lead in the first inning, going ahead 1-0 on an inside-the-park home run by left fielder Jarrod Marifiote.

Anna Maria added to its advantage in the second inning, plating three more runs to go ahead 4-0. Following a single by Noah Holland, Nick Genatossio sent a two-run homer over the right-field wall. Pitcher Adam Twitchell recorded the third score on a bases-loaded single to plate Jason Shell for an unearned run.

The AMCATS' third homer of the afternoon lifted them to a 6-0 advantage through three innings. Luke Halunen sent one over the New England Baseball Complex wall to further build the home team's lead.

The Falcons were mystified by the AMCATS' Twitchell, as he held Albertus to just one run over 6.0 innings with five hits and two walks.

Albertus got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning on the back of a Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) double that led off the frame. With two outs, freshman catcher Ty Netto (Derby, Conn.) secured the RBI with a single to left-center. However, the Falcons did not add any more runs after that, as the inning came to an end with a ground out.

Albertus began to threaten the AMCATS in the top of the ninth inning, putting three on. Netto got on first after being hit by a pitch, followed closely by Eduardo Pena (Hamden, Conn.) with a pinch-hit single to left. Joseph Matthews (Anaheim, Calif.) loaded the bases with another single to left field.

Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) took advantage of the bags being full, working a walk to bring Alex Kozlowski (Shelton, Conn.) across to cut the deficit to 6-2. Unfortunately, the Falcons' threat came to an end when Genatossio made a diving stop at first to gather a Warren rocket down the right-field line, ending the game with an unassisted put-out at first.
