Galarza Drives In Four, But Baseball Loses In 10 Innings To Curry

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Eric Galarza (Bridgeport, Conn.) drove in four runs while scoring a run, but the Albertus Magnus College baseball team lost an 8-7 game in 10 innings to Curry College on Monday evening in the RussMatt Tournament.

Galarza finished the day 2-for-4 with a double. Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) had two hits and Adriel Espada (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored two runs and had a career-high three stolen bases. Anthony Abate (Naugatuck, Conn.) drove in two runs for the Falcons.

Aaron McIntyre (East Haven, Conn.) struck out six batters in 4.1 innings of work. Ryan Green (Torrington, Conn.) struck out five in 3.2 innings of relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Curry jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. Aaron Siegel hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first for the Colonels.
  • Albertus got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a run and scored four more in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. During the rallly, Gio Morales (Manchester, Conn.) and Espada opened the inning with walks. Two batters later, Spataj was intentionally walked to load the bases for Galarza who ripped a double to center field to clear the bases and tie the game at 4-4. Arent then reached on an error on a ball hit to left field, allowing Galarza to score and give Albertus the 5-4 lead.
  • The Falcons scored two more times in in the top of the sixth as Anthony Abate hit a two-run single to left to score Espada and Morales to give the Falcons a 7-4 lead.
  • Curry scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-5 game.
  • The first two batters reached base in the bottom of the ninth for the Colonels, and George Calderon drove in a run on a groundout to make it a one-run game. The Colonels tied the game when a wild pitch on a strikeout to Nick Krise scored Brady Callahan, tying the game, 7-7.
  • Curry won in the game in the bottom of the tenth as pinch-hitter Alex Barker-Hook hit a double to score Tino Gagliardi.
