New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team topped the 100-point plateau for the first time this season and shot an impressive 55 percent from the field on Tuesday night en route to 112-67 non-conference victory against visiting Newbury at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

The Falcons (4-2) have now won three straight home games, while the Nighthawks (0-7) suffered their seventh setback in a row. AMC is undefeated this season when scoring 83 or more points.

It was a balanced offensive attack for Albertus Magnus as five different players scoring in double figures. It marked the third time this season that five or more players poured in 10 or more points for the Falcons. Senior guard Shaquille Mitchell (Linden, N.J.) paced the host attack with a double-double courtesy of a 22-point, 10-rebound performance. Mitchell was an efficient 9-of-12 shooting from the field and added six assists. Junior forward Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) had another strong game with 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Devin Coleman (Bridgeport, Conn.) also chipped in 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Sophomore guard Ryan Pittman (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman guard Jahmerikah Green-Younger (Norwalk, Conn.) each contributed 10 points apiece for AMC.

Newbury was a one-man show as junior point guard Jeduan Langston scored a team-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Langston also knocked down six shot from the free-throw line to go along with three assists and two steals. Classmate Davion Edwards was the other Nighthawk in double figures with 12 thanks to hit three shots from three-point range. Senior guard Joshua Oliver gave the guests some good minutes with eight points off the bench.

After the early minutes of the contest, Albertus Magnus never trailed. The guests got off to a quick start, taking an early  9-4 edge following an old-fashioned three-point play from Langston. Albertus Magnus would battle back and take the lead for good at 14-12 five minutes into the contest thanks to back-to-back triples from Pittman.

Following the second Pittman trey, the Falcons outscored the Nighthawks, 28-8, over the next eight minutes to build a 42-20 lead after a layup from junior forward Erick Langston (Stratford, Conn.). Albertus Magnus would end the half strong and score the final four points in the frame capped by a Walters lay in to take a whopping 67-30 lead into the break.

In the second half, the hosts stretched their lead to as many as 47 points with 16 minutes remaining courtesy of bucket from Walters. To close out the game, both teams emptied out the bench.

Albertus Magnus raced out to its first-half lead thanks to hitting over 57 percent (27-of-47) of its shots from the field, highlighted by hitting seven three-pointers. The Falcons forced 18 Newbury turnovers and got 42 points off the bench.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Thursday, December 8, with a home non-conference clash against in-state rival Mitchell that is slated to begin at 7:00 pm. Last year, the Falcons scored a 99-91 victory versus the Mariners in New London. Albertus Magnus has won nine straight against Mitchell.
