Men's Soccer Weekly Preview: Johnson & Wales

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team went 0-2 last week, falling on the road in non-conference, midweek action to in-state rival Coast Guard, 2-1, before being shutout at home by Saint Joseph's (Maine), 2-0, over the weekend in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. Albertus Magnus enters the seventh week of the season with a 7-4-1 overall record and a 2-2-1 mark in GNAC play. In the loss to the Bears, senior Matt Mueller scored for the Falcons.

Earlier This Week: Rivier blanked the Falcons, 2-0, in New Hampshire on Columbus Day. Albertus Magnus suffered its first conference road loss of the fall and its third straight setback. In net, AMC sophomore goalkeeper Joe Russo turned aside four shots in a losing effort.

This Weekend: Albertus Magnus hits the road to face Johnson & Wales on Saturday in a rematch of last fall's GNAC Championship. The Falcons are looking to an end a three-game skid, while the Wildcats are riding a three-game winning streak. At home, JWU is 4-0-3 this autumn and AMC is 2-3 outside the Elm City in 2016.

Last Year Versus the Wildcats: Johnson & Wales and Albertus Magnus met twice last season. In New Haven during the regular season, the Wildcats scored a 1-0 victory with a strike early in the second half. A few weeks later, JWU once again topped AMC, 1-0, this time in the GNAC Championship. Johnson & Wales has won three straight against Albertus Magnus. The last nine meetings in the series has seen the winning team shutout the losing squad.

NOTES:
- In net, Joe Russo has played every minute for the Falcons this season. He is 7-5-1 overall with a 1.34 goals-against average, 55 saves and a .764 save percentage. He has recorded three shutouts in 2016, including one in GNAC play.
- Junior forward Justyn Broderick is enjoying a breakout season for Albertus Magnus, as he leads the team in goals (6), assists (5), points (17), game-winning goals (3) and shots (38).
- Senior midfielder Alex Zapata is having another banner year for the Falcons, in eight appearances this fall he has registered 10 points thanks to four goals and two assists. He currently ranks sixth in program history with 73 points, sixth in career goals with 27 and eighth in assists with 19.
- Albertus Magnus is 5-3 in one-goal games this fall. Nine of the 13 Albertus Magnus games this season have been decided by one goal of fewer. In overtime, the Falcons are 2-0-1 in 2016.
