Providence, R.I. – Sophomore goalkeeper Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) made six saves and senior midfielder Matt Mueller (Cheshire, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal to lead the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team past Johnson & Wales, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the SMG Athletic Complex.

The Falcons (8-5-1, 3-3-1 GNAC) snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory, while the Wildcats (8-3-4, 4-2-1 GNAC) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

With the score knotted at one at the break, Mueller broke through early in the second stanza for the eventual game-winner. His fifth tally of the season come in the 48th minute off a feed from freshman midfielder Brayan Lucero (East Haven, Conn.).

The Falcon backline and Russo kept the potent JWU attack off the board the remainder of the way as the guests avenged a one-goal setback to the Wildcats in New Haven last fall.

In net, Russo turned aside all six shots he faced to record the shutout. The clean sheet was Russo's fourth of the season and the second in conference play. On the opposite end, Jon Robbins turned aside two shots in a losing effort for Johnson & Wales.

Albertus Magnus is 6-3 in one-goal games this fall. Ten of the 14 Falcon games this season have been decided by one goal of fewer.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, October 18, with a road conference clash against Anna Maria that is slated to begin at 6:30 pm. Last September, the Falcons topped the AMCATS, 1-0, in the Elm City thanks to an unassisted strike from Justyn Broderick.
