A late run in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Saint Joseph College Blue Jays a 6-5 win over the Albertus Magnus softball team in nine innings on Friday afternoon.

Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) finished the contest 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while both Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) and Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) recorded two RBI a piece.

The Falcons (6-10) took the lead early once again as Urciuoli scored on a Maio base hit through the left side of the infield. The Blue Jays took the lead in the bottom of the frame as Stephanie Valerio tripled to right field to record her first RBI of the contest. She later scored the Blue Jay's second run on a wild pitch.

In the third inning, Urciuoli reached base on a bunt single before Maio was walked to put runners on first and second. Mirto registered a single to right field as well as two RBI to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead.

Once again Saint Joseph tied the game before an RBI single to center gave the Falcons a 4-3 advantage. The Blue Jays tied the ballgame once again with a sacrifice fly in the following inning before Albertus took a 5-4 lead in the eighth as Urciuoli scored her third run of the ballgame. In the bottom of the frame, the Blue Jays tied the game at five to force the contest into more innings.

After a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, the Blue Jays were able to get the bases loaded as an infield single to short scored the game-winning run as Saint Joseph took the 6-5 league victory.

Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) gave up two runs on a hit and walk in the first inning before Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) took the hill for the Falcons. Thuerling earned the loss to fall to 4-8 on the year as she allowed 11 hits and four runs, two of which were earned, in 8.1 innings of work.

The Falcons return to action as they head to Nashua, N.H. on Saturday to take on Rivier in GNAC play beginning at 1:00 p.m.
