Lasell scored three-runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to an 8-6 GNAC win over the Albertus Magnus softball team on Sunday. Three hits and an Albertus error put the Lasers ahead 8-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth before they earned their fourth victory of the season.

Lasell's Talia DeChiara recorded an RBI single with a runner on base, due to the international rule, to give the Lasers' a 6-5 lead. An RBI single by Denise Archetto extended the Lasers' lead to two before a walk with the bases loaded gave Lasell an 8-5 advantage.

In the bottom of the frame, Albertus scored one run on one hit but the Falcons' rally was cut short as they fell 8-6 in extra innings. With the loss, the Falcons move to 8-12 on the year and 4-8 in the league standings.

The Falcons were led by freshman Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) who went 3-for-5 with one run scored and two RBI as she recorded her second home run of the season with a blast in the first inning. In the opening frame, Albertus took an early 3-0 lead thanks to Mirto's homer before Lasell tallied a run in each of the next four innings to take a 4-3 lead.

After taking a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh, the Falcons answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run inning to force the game into extras. Shannon Knox (Hamden, Conn.) led off the inning with a base hit before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.). Knox then advanced to third on a ground out to second and scored on an Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) single. Mirto followed with a base hit of her own before Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) hit an RBI single to plate Maio and tie the game at five.

Manning finished the game 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI as well as a double.

Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) moved to 5-10 on the year with the loss as she gave up five earned runs, 13 hits and one walk in nine innings of work. She also struck out two to improve her strikeout tally on the year to 57.

Albertus returns to action on Friday, April 6 when the Falcons travel to Pine Manor College for a GNAC double-header which is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
