Mirto Homers in Falcons’ 12-3 Win at St. Elizabeth

Freshman Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) connected on her third home run of the season as the Albertus Magnus softball team downed the College of Saint Elizabeth 12-3 in game two of the Falcons' Tuesday afternoon double-header.

Mirto finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBI as she recorded her sixth multiple-hit game of the season. Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) also finished the contest 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Albertus (11-15) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before tallying four runs in the second. Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) singled to lead off the frame before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt. She later scored as Leyna Andren (Manahawkin, N.J.) registered an RBI double to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Rebecca Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) followed with an RBI double of her own before Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied an RBI single to extend the Falcons' lead. The junior also scored in the frame on an Eagles' error.

The Falcons also recorded multiple runs in the sixth inning as Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) recorded a base hit with one out on the board before scoring on an RBI double from Mirto. Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) followed with her own RBI double to help secure the victory.

Urciuoli led off the seventh with her third hit of the ballgame before Mirto capped off the contest with a two-run home run.

Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) earned the victory on the hill as she went seven innings, while allowing seven hits, three runs and two walks.

The Falcons will host Brooklyn College on Wednesday, April 11 as the non-conference double-header is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
