A three-run third inning lifted the Albertus Magnus softball team to a 5-1 final over Brooklyn College in game two of its Wednesday night double header. Albertus registered just two hits, while Brooklyn committed four errors, as the Falcons improved to 12-16 on the year.

Brooklyn (11-11) took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly out from Stephanie Caravello. Albertus tied the game at one in the bottom of the frame as Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) recorded a sac fly of her own to register her team-best 21st RBI of the season.

Albertus took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Rebecca Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) connected on an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Her lone hit of the contest plated Krista LaBissoniere (Meriden, Conn.) from second after the junior walked to get on base then stole second.

In the third inning, three Brooklyn errors allowed the Falcons to score three runs as the only hit in the frame was a double to left center by Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.). Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) reached base on an infield error then advanced to second and third on back-to-back wild pitches. Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) put down a bunt and reached base as Figueroa was caught in a run down before scoring on a throwing error. Urciuoli was able to come all the way around to score on the play to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead.

After Mirto doubled, Jeslyne Santos entered the game to pinch run then scored on another Bulldog error. LaBissoniere walked with Santos on third and advanced to second as Santos attempted to steal home. A poor throw home allowed Santos to score just before the Bulldogs were able to get LaBissoniere out at third trying to get into scoring position.

After giving up the lone run in the first, Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) was able to shutout the Bulldogs for the remainder of the contest. She gave up seven hits in seven innings but struck out seven on the night. Her overall record from the hill improved to 9-13 with the victory.

Tara Diesel took the loss to drop to 0-4 on the year for the Bulldogs. She struck out five and walked four batters, while giving up just two hits.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday as they host Emmanuel in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at West Haven High School. The first game of the league double-header is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
