Falcons Edged by Mount Ida 5-4 in Game 1

Mount Ida edged the Albertus Magnus softball team 5-4 in game one of the Saturday afternoon double-header in Newton, Mass. Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) threw six innings, while allowing 14 hits and five runs. She also recorded a hit and an RBI for the Falcons in the loss.

Albertus (15-22, 9-16) took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a solo home run by Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.), her first of the season. Mount Ida tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on four hits before the Falcons took a 2-1 lead in the third as Figueroa reached and later scored on two Mustang errors.

Mount Ida tied the contest once again before Albertus took a 4-2 lead in the fifth as Melissa Manning doubled to left field.

The Mustangs scored three more runs in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead before recording the conference victory. Thanks to four hits, including back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame, the Mustangs tied the game and tallied the eventual game winner.

Manning took the loss to fall to 3-4 on the year, while the Mustangs Rayelle Pierson earned the win. Pierson went seven innings and allowed four runs on three hits, while she struck out five batters.
