In its 2014 season opener, the Albertus Magnus softball team fell to Pittsburgh-Greensburg 9-5 on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Amanda Jessey (East Haven, Conn.) went 3-for-4 in her Falcon debut with two RBI and one run scored.

Pitt took a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before the Falcons were able to get on the scoreboard.  Albertus scored four runs in the fifth inning thanks to two hits, including a multiple-RBI single by Jessey.

 With one out, Rachel Cataudella (Shelton, Conn.) singled before moving to second on a Jessica Seaver (North Haven, Conn.) walk.  Another walk loaded the bases before Megan Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) walked in the Falcons' first run of the contest. Jessey followed with her base hit before she and Kelly advanced on the base path due to a wild pitch.  On that wild throw, Kelly scored Albertus' fourth run of the ballgame.

The Bobcats added two runs in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 9-4 before Albertus tallied its last run in the bottom of the seventh before their late-inning rally was cut short.

Jessed led off the inning with a single to left field before moving to second on an infield single by Veronica Hribko (East Haven, Conn.).  After a double steal, Jessey stole home to cut the Bobcat lead to four but a strikeout ended the contest.

Pitt was led by Sarah Giebel and Caitlin Tobin with three hits apiece as the Bobcats recorded 16 hits in the contest.  Meghan Uher threw 4.2 innings of work and gave up four Falcon runs and four hits, while striking out six.  Claire Welka threw 2.1 innings for the Bobcats and walked three batters, while giving up three hits and one run.

Shyleen Ortiz (New Britain, Conn.) threw all seven innings for the Falcons as she gave up seven earned runs.  She struck out two batters as well in her collegiate debut.
