The Albertus Magnus softball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Friday night to Emmanuel College in West Haven, Conn.  The Falcons won game one by a score of 5-1 before falling in game two 6-4.

With the GNAC split, the Falcons' move to 11-10 on the year, while the Saints moved to 11-16 overall.

In game one, the Falcons used a four-run sixth inning to pick up the league victory.  In the third inning, Devon DeLallo (Redding, Conn.) doubled to score Britney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) from second after Urciuoli singled to reach base and then stole second.

In the sixth, the Falcons used back-to-back singles to get into scoring position before an Emmanuel error put another Falcon run on the board.  Junior Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) followed with a multiple-run double as Albertus took a 4-0 lead.  Amanda Jessey (East Haven, Conn.) also picked up an RBI in the frame as she singled in Maio from second.

Emmanuel's lone run of the game came in the top of the seventh as Kerianne Vulpis singled in a run after two walked batters and a Falcon wild pitch.

Shyleen Ortiz (New Britain, Conn.) earned the win for the Falcons as she went seven innings, allowing seven hits and four walks with just one run scored.  Jill Kilcoyne took the loss as she gave up five runs on 10 hits in six innings.  She struck out seven on the night.

Maio finished the game with a 2-for-3 performance, while Emmanuel's Catherine Davis went 2-for-3 as well to lead the Saints.

In game two, Emmanuel came from behind to take the GNAC win. Albertus held a 4-0 lead after five innings but a six-run sixth inning by the Saints led the visiting team to the victory.

Brenna Gilmore led the Saints with a two-hit performance, including an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Albertus went ahead 1-0 in the first inning as Urciuoli doubled and then scored on a ground out by DeLallo.  In the second inning, Maio doubled to put two runners into scoring position before Megan Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied an RBI single giving Albertus a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Maio led off the frame with a triple but could not score as she was thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice play.  Later in the frame, DeLallo doubled in two more Falcon runs as Albertus took a commanding 4-0 lead.

In the sixth, Emmanuel struck with six runs on four hits and one Albertus error.  Samantha Adams scored the eventual game winning run on a fielder's choice as the Saints went on to take the two-run victory.

Gilmore earned the win as she was on the mound when the Saints took the lead.

Brianna Longley (Milford, Conn.) took the loss as she threw seven innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, while she struck out five batters.
