The Albertus Magnus softball team dropped game one of the Monday afternoon Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader by a score of 6-0 as the Mustangs Nicole Handzel threw a no hitter in the shutout.

Mount Ida (7-16, 6-9 GNAC) tallied six runs on 10 hits and two Albertus errors, while the Falcons fall to 14-12 on the year and 7-8 in league play.

Handzel walked one and a hit a batter in the contest.  She recorded eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Mount Ida took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Gina Onorevole singled down the right field line before advancing on a Nickole Soto base hit.  She later scored on a double to left center by Emma Morton.

In the bottom of the fourth Mount Ida took a 2-0 lead as Soto recorded a two-out single to center.  After a Morton infield single, Kaitlyn Muhlenforth knocked in a run with an RBI single down the right field line.

The Mustangs added four runs in the fifth inning thanks to back-to-back hits to lead off the frame. Two Falcon miscues aided in the Mustangs' four-run inning as the host team took a 6-0 lead.

After hitting a batter in the fourth, Handzel retired 11-straight batters to secure the GNAC victory.

Albertus freshman Brianna Longley (Milford, Conn.) fell to 7-5 with the loss as she allowed just three earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.
