The Albertus Magnus softball split its doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon in New Haven.  The Falcons won game one 5-2 before falling in game two 2-1.

Albertus (5-8, 1-1 GNAC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first contest.  The Falcons' Amanda Jessey (East Haven, Conn.) singled then advanced into scoring position.  With two outs, Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.) registered an RBI single before scoring later on a Daysia Wehder (Queens, N.Y.). double.

Albertus added another run in the fourth and one in the fifth thanks to a bases loaded walk to junior Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.)

With the score 4-0 heading into the sixth inning, Albertus added one more run as Castillo registered the RBI single.

Saint Joseph's moved to 8-2 on the year with the GNAC split.

Albertus was led by Jessey who went 2-for-4 with one run, while Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) added two hits as well.  Wehder finished with one hit and one RBI, while Castillo finished 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The Monks were led by Kim Jordan who went 3-for-3, while Mariah Harrison went 1-for-3 with two RBI.  After two Falcon errors, Harrison took advantage and registered a two-run home run.

Laura Jordan fell to 1-1 on the year as she threw 4.2 innings, while she allowed seven hits and three strikeouts.

Megan Ferraro (Branford, Conn.) went 5.1 innings and allowed six hits and two runs scored. Samantha Masselli (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) earned the save as she threw the final 1.2 innings, while allowing two hits and zero runs.

In the second game of the afternoon, the Monks used two home runs that would prove to be the deciding factor.  Kim Jordan finished the contest 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Theresa Hendrix, who finished on the hill for her second win of the season, registered an RBI single in the fourth inning to secure the victory.

Kim Jordan led off the game with a solo home run to give the Monks a 1-0 lead.  Albertus tied the game at one as Jessey recorded an RBI single.

Masselli fell to 3-3 on the year as she threw 4.1 innings.  She allowed four hits and two runs. Shyleen Ortiz (New Britain, Conn.) came in off the bench to finish out the contest as she went 2.2 innings, giving up one hit, while striking out one.
