Freshman Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus softball team has been named to the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Northeast Region Second Team.
Fortier is one of 361 players throughout the country to earn the regional accolade as each of the eight regions of the country were divided into three teams.
All-Region players were nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First-Team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced on May 21.
Fortier led the Falcons in 2015 batting .464 in 41 games played. She registered a team-high 64 hits, five home runs, 32 RBI, 11 doubles, and 39 runs scored. She posted a .696 slugging percentage and was named both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year as well as Rookie of the Year for her efforts.
Fortier led the Falcons with 22 multiple-hit games and seven games with multiple RBIs recorded. In fact, she recorded five contests with three RBI. She also tallied an 11-game hitting streak this season which lasted from April 12 through April 25.
The Falcons finished with a 27-15 overall record, the most wins in a single-season, as 2015 marked one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Falcons finished as the runner-up in both the GNAC and ECAC Tournaments.
