Softball Splits GNAC Doubleheader vs. Norwich

New Haven, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College softball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with Norwich University on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field. The Cadets took the opener, 2-0, and the Falcons secured the night cap, 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(T) 1st Inning  – Norwich scored two runs in the top of the first inning and then never looked back en route to its first victory of the year. Sophomore Emily Oliver and freshman Makenna Wade had back-to-back RBI singles to score Sarah Perry and Justina George for game ones only runs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Morgan Shura (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied the Falcons' only hit in game one.
  • Following the loss, Ferraro falls to 8-2 on the year while Johnson earns her first win of the season.
  • Three different players registered at least two hits for the Cadets.
  • Norwich went 6-of-28 at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(B) 1st Inning – Anderson got things started for the Falcons as she allowed Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) to cross home to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead.

(B) 3rd Inning – Anderson struck again this time in the bottom of the third as she recorded a two-run RBI as well as scored the Falcons fourth run of the game, following a passed ball.

(B) 4th Inning - Up by four, Daysia Wehder (Bronx, N.Y.) extended the Falcons' lead to five, 5-0, as she allowed one runner to score after Anderson loaded the bases after being walked with one out. Melissa Castillo (Taftville, Conn.) and Anderson ended the inning with the final two outs.

(B) 5th Inning - With one out and runners on first and second, Megan Kelly recorded the RBI as the outfielder allowed Aliza Esposito to score (East Haven, Conn.) to give the Falcons a six-run cushion.

(B) 6th Inning - The Falcons final run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth as a sacrifice fly from Morgan Shura (Wallingford, Conn.) allowed Anderson to score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Anderson also went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs to lead the Falcons' offense as well.
  • Makenna Wade had the lone hit for Norwich in the second game. 
  • Eight of the nine Albertus Magnus starters had at least one hit as Albertus Magnus had 13 hits in the second game. 
  • Oliver was saddled with the loss, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits and three walks in four innings to fall to 0-6 on the year.
