Louisville, Ky. – Junior Gillian Fortier (Naugatuck, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College softball team has been named to the 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Northeast Second Team. This is the second time in Fortier's collegiate career she has received this year-end honor from the NFCA.
Fortier is one of 360 players throughout the country to earn the regional accolade as each of the eight regions of the country were divided into three teams. All-Region players were nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions.
Fortier, who was named GNAC Player of the Year last week, enjoyed a standout junior campaign that saw career-highs in seven different statistical categories. The junior batted .441 with a career-best 67 hits including 28 extra-base hits on a career-high 15 doubles, two triples and a career-best 11 home runs. She belted a league-high 52 RBI and 58 runs scored as well as recorded a career-high on-base percentage of .500. She also recorded her 100th career run earlier this season at Johnson & Wales and this past weekend picked up 100th career RBI against Norwich in the GNAC Tournament.
The Albertus Magnus College softball team finished the 2017 season with a 30-15 overall record and earned the No. 4 seed in the GNAC Tournament after posting a 15-7 mark in league play. The Falcons saw their season come to an end with a 9-2 setback versus Suffolk in the double elimination portion of the GNAC Tournament.
