NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team won a first-game thriller in a split with Manhattanville on Wednesday at the Shea Softball Complex. The Falcons won game one, 5-4 before dropping game two, 5-2.
Gianna Carrano (West Haven Conn.) was 3-for-4 in game one. Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn) was 2-for-4 with a run and Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) had a hit and two runs, including the game-winning run in the first game. Carangelo also earned the win in 0.2 innings of relief.
Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) started game one and struck out five batters in 6.1 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Isabella Tansey led off the game with a solo homer for Manhattanville as the Valiants took an early 1-0 lead.
- Manhattanville made it a 2-0 game after an RBI triple by Samantha Reyer.
- Albertus took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Izzy Barreiro's (Brookfield, Conn.) RBI groundout put the Falconson the board. A bases loaded walk drawn by Arent tied the game and a wild pitch scored Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.), who singled earlier in the inning.
- Manhattanville took the lead back in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Samantha Walsh with the bases loaded. The following batter, Cady Sickler flew out to left which looked like it scored Olivia Fasce, but Fasce was called out after she left early from third base, keeping it a 4-3 game.
- In a dramatic bottom of the seventh, Carangelo and Edwards singled to put runners on the corner. After a walk to Barreiro loaded the bases, a passed ball allowed Carangelo to score. A walk to Gabby Rubino (Southington, Conn.) loaded the bases again for Smith. A wild pitch then scored Edwards for the game-winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Valiants scored a run in the first inning, the Falcons scored one in the bottom of the second after an RBI single from Smith to score Edwards, who singled to open the inning.
- Manhattanville scored one more in the third on an RBI double by Tansey to take the lead back, 2-1. The Valiants added three more in the top of the fifth, including a two-run single by Isabel Perez.
- Carangelo had an RBI single to get a run back for the Falcons as they loaded bases with no outs. However, the Falcons were unable to get another run across as the game remained 5-2.
- The game was called in the top of the seventh due to darkness.
