NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Annabelle Jabs (East Hartland, Conn.) struck out a season-high nine batters in game two as the Albertus Magnus College softball team split its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener against New England College on Saturday. The Falcons dropped game one, 6-5 before taking game two, 5-1 at Shea Softball Complex.
Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI.
Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) drove in two runs in game one and pitched 4.1 innings in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albertus got on the board first on a sacrifice fly by Arent in the bottom of the first.
- After a scoreless second inning, both teams scored multiple run in the third inning. In the top of the inning, the Pilgrims scored three times, including a two-run single by Surena Montero. Albertus scored two in the bottom of the inning as Arent tied the game with an RBI single.
- NEC took the lead again in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Abigail Grimes, but once again the Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, and took a 5-4 lead on a wild pitch that plated Edwards.
- The Pilgrims took the lead for good in the top of the seventh as Grimes hit a two-run double to take a 6-5 lead.

- The Falcons started game two in a big way as Edwards hit a three-run triple with the bases loaded to take a 3-0 lead.
- NEC got one run back in the top of the second.
- Albertus added one more run in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch that scored Edwards.
- Gabby Rubino drew a walk in the bottom of the fifth to give the Falcons their final run of the game.
