NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team matched the second longest winning streak in program history with its 11th consecutive win in game one of a doubleheader victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), 16-7. However, the Falcons winning streak came to an end in the game two, a 9-6 loss.
Mikaela Scwhippert (Whippany, N.J.) was 3-for-5 with a homer, four runs and four RBI over the course of the two games, while Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) was 2-for-5 with five runs scored. Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) drove in five runs and scored three. Izzy Barreiro (Brookfield, Conn.) scored two runs and drove in two in game one, while Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) drove in three and scored a run in the opening game.
Scwhippert is currently riding a 16-game hitting streak. Arent earned her 11th win in game one, which is tops in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
The 11-game winning streak tied both the 2002 team and the 1998 team for the second longest winning streak in Albertus history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- There was plenty of offense to go around and it started with the Falcons scoring one in the top of the first inning as a fielder's choice off the bat of Edwards scored Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.), who also reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
- MCLA took its only lead in the bottom of the inning as Madyson Torres hit a three-run homer with one out after a single by Ella Staffier and a walk to Hailey Peabody.
- The MCLA lead was short-lived as Albertus erupted for seven runs in the top of the second to take an 8-3 lead. The first three batters loaded the bases as Barreiro and Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) both walked with a Gabby Rubino (Southington, Conn.) single sandwiched in between. Carrano then reached on an error that scored a run, followed by an RBI single by Arent to tie the game, 3-3. Scwhippert drew a bases loaded walk to take the lead and Carangelo followed with a two-run single to give Albertus the 6-3 lead. The Falcons Barreiro also added an RBI single in the inning as the Falcons sent 11 hitters to the plate.
- Albertus made it a 12-3 lead after the top of the third, including a two-run single by Edwards.
- MCLA rallied to score three in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two-run single by Torres.
- After the Trailblazers added a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons ended the game via the mercy rule with a four-run top of the fifth inning. Amelia Boulli had an RBI ground out and Barreiro and Smith each had an RBI single during the inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game two started out relatively similar to game one as both teams got on the board early. Albertus scored two in the top of the first inning to take a brief 2-0 lead. Carrano and Arent singled with one out and Scwhippert drove home Carrano with a single of her own. Two batters later, Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to score Arent.
- The Trailblazers answered with a two big innings to start the game. In the bottom of the first, MCLA scored five runs that included a two-run single by Samantha Wheeler, and RBI singles by Torres, Staffier and Allee George. The Trailblazers scored three more in the second on a three-run homer by Maggie Colinski.
- Albertus didn't go away quietly, scoring two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings. In the third, an RBI double from Edwards and RBI single from Boulli made it an 8-4 game. In the top of the fourth, Scwhippert connected for her third homer of the season - a two-run shot - to make it an 8-6 game.
- MCLA added one more run in the bottom of the fourth.
