NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the United States Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, taking game one 12-2, before losing game two, 10-2.
Five different players had two hits in game one for Albertus. Skylar Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a run. Karla Carangelo (Cheshire, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) drove in three runs while going 2-for-4 and also scoring a run. Gabby Rubino (Southington, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Game one ended in five innings, via the mercy rule.
In game two, Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a run as the game ended in six innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons scored in four of the five innings in game one, starting with an RBI single by Carangelo in the top of the first.
- Albertus erupted for eight runs in the top of the second as the Falcons sent 13 batters to the plate. With the bases loaded and one out, Carrano hit an RBI single, followed by a two-run double by Arent, making it a 4-0 game. Mikaela Scwhippert (Whippany, N.J.) followed with an RBI single of her own, leading two a pitching change by the Bears. Carangelo and Edwards then greeted Coast Guard pitcher, Emma Behel with back-to-back RBI singles, putting the Falcons up, 8-0. Three batters later, Rubino capped the inning with a run-scoring single of her own.
- Edwards added another RBI single in the top of the third.
- Coast Guard scored a run apiece in both the third and fourth innings, including an RBI double by Madeline Kibler.
- Albertus scored two more runs in the fop of the fifth, including an RBI single by Izzy Barreiro (Brookfield, Conn.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In game two, it was the Bears who jumped out to a lead early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Bridget Bartz. They added four more runs in the bottom of the third, which included RBI singles by Kibler and Veronica Krystofik.
- Albertus cut its deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Scwhippert, followed by an RBI single by Carangelo.
- After scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth to answer the Falcons, the Bears scored three more in the botto mof the fifth, highlighted by a two-run triple by Abriana Schmutz. They'd tack on one more run in the bottom of the sixth in invoke the mercy rule.
