Amherst, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team fell on the road to No. 4 Amherst, 97-39, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action inside LeFrak Gymnasium. The Falcons lost their third in a row to move to 1-3 on the year, while the Lord Jeffs improved to 1-0 with the season-opening victory.

Junior guard Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) paced the Albertus Magnus attack with 10 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists. Senior forwards Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) both netted eight points for the visitors. Sherrod made the most of her looks, knocking down 4-of-7 shots from the field, while Pendagast pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.

Offensively, it was a balanced attack for Amherst with six players scoring nine or more points, including three in double figures. Junior guard Ali Doswell led the charge for the Jeffs with a game-high 18 points, highlighted by knocking down four shots from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Hannah Hackley chipped in 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and senior guard Marley Giddins added 12 points and five rebounds while also shooting 6-of-7 shooting from the floor.

The big difference in the contest was the three-point shooting, as Amherst hit 18-of-34 attempts while Albertus Magnus converted on just 2-of-8 three-point attempts. The hosts controlled the boards, outrebounding the Falcons, 43-25. The Jeffs also distributed the ball well, registering 23 assists on 36 field goals compared to Albertus Magnus with six assists on 13 field goals.

Amherst jumped out to an early 31-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Jeffs reeled off the first 11 points of the game, connecting on five of their first six shots and forcing three Albertus Magnus turnovers during the spurt. After a layup by Sherrod put the Falcons on the board, the hosts responded with a 10-0 run to build their lead to 21-2.

Throughout the remainder of the half and the game the Jeffs controlled the tempo and maintained the advantage to earn their first win of the winter.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, November 23, with a non-conference home clash against Bay Path at 7:00 pm at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
