Women's Basketball Weekly Preview: Norwich & Suffolk

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team went 2-1 last week, sandwiching conference victories against Anna Maria and Lasell around a non-conference setback versus in-state foe Connecticut College. Albertus Magnus has won eight of its last nine and is in the midst of a six-game Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) winning streak. In the home triumph against the AMCATS, Albertus Magnus pulled away in the second half, outscoring Anna Maria, 50-32. Over the weekend, the Falcons scored a road win at Lasell. In the triumph, Albertus Magnus pulled away in the second quarter, erasing a one-point deficit after the first stanza and building a 14-point edge at the break. The guests shot an impressive 57 percent (8-of-14) from the field in the second and outscored the hosts, 24-9.

This Week: The Falcons had Monday's non-conference clash with Coast Guard postponed until next Monday, February 15, and will travel to face Norwich and Suffolk later this week in conference play.

Last Season Against Norwich: The Cadets scored a 75-65 road victory in New Haven versus Albertus Magnus last January. The Falcons shot 35.4% from the floor, while Norwich shot 37.5%. The Cadets also outrebounded the Falcons, 49-41, on the afternoon. Kelsey Pendagast recorded a double-double courtesy of a 12-point, 10-rebound performance in the loss.

Series History: Norwich leads the all-time series, 15-7, and has won two straight. The Cadets have been in control of the series lately, taking nine of the last 11 contests.

Scouting the Cadets: Norwich ranks fifth in the GNAC in scoring, pouring in over 65 points per game. The Cadets are shooting 37 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range. At home, the team is 6-3 and is scoring over 72 points a game. The Cadets are coming off a 59-49 setback at Lasell over the weekend. The balanced Norwich attack has three players scoring in double figures, led by junior forward Heather LeBlanc with just under 14 points per tilt. She's averaging a double-double, pulling down over 10 boards a contest. The sophomore backcourt tandem of Shyann Josler and Arianna Harrison are also averaging in double figures for the Cadets.

Last Year Versus Suffolk: The visiting Rams scored a 77-72 victory against the Falcons last February in The Nest. Suffolk rattled off 21 points on 16 Albertus turnovers, while the Falcons outrebounded the Rams, 44-33. Suffolk shot 44.4% (4-of-9) from behind the arc in the second half which made the difference in the contest.

Series History: Suffolk leads the all-time series, 12-7, and is riding a five-game winning streak against the Falcons. The Rams 5-3 at home versus AMC.

Scouting Suffolk: The Rams snapped a two-game losing streak with a 10-point win at home versus Norwich over the weekend. Suffolk has been a different team at home this winter, going 9-4. Suffolk is seventh in the conference in scoring, netting just under 64 points per game. The Rams are hitting 36 percent of their shots from the field, including over 30 percent from beyond the arc. Senior forward Chelsea Campellone is the lone Ram averaging in double figures, scoring just under 15 points per game and shooting 42 percent from the field this year.

Albertus Notes
- Sophomore forward Olivia Bolden averaged over 22 points and eight rebounds in a pair of non-conference wins for the Falcons last week. She knocked down better than 55 percent of her shots from the field in GNAC play and recorded her eighth double-double of the winter versus Lasell over the weekend. She ended the week with a 31-point, 10-rebound performance in a win at Lasell. Versus the Lasers, she knocked 10 shots from the field and hit 10 from the charity stripe as well.
- Albertus Magnus is leading the GNAC in scoring (73.3 points per game) and three-point field goal percentage (32.2). The Falcons also rank second in the league in rebounding, just below league-leader Suffolk.
- Junior guard Liz Falcigno is second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, converting over 40 percent of her attempts from beyond the arc. She is fifth in the conference in scoring, pouring in over 16 points per game.
