Women's Basketball Drops Hard Fought Contest Against Trinity

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) scored 28 points, but the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost a 94-74 game to Trinity College (Conn.) on Monday evening in The Nest in a non-conference game.

Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk, Conn.) scored 21 points with eight rebounds, while Diamond White (Hamden, Conn.) had 11 points and five assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trinity jumped out to a 10-6 lead early on behind six points from Olivia Vick. White, Murray-Leach and Scott each had a field goal during the opening stretch. The Bantams took a 25-13 lead after the first 10 minutes. Murray-Leach scored six points for the Falcons in the quarter and Scott, five. The Bantams were led by Melissa Whitmore, who had 13 points on 3-for-3 on three-pointers.
  • The Falcons were able to chip away at the deficit down to 37-30 at the 3:30 mark in the second quarter as Scott scored nine of the first 13 points. However, Trinity finished on an 11-4 run to take a 48-34 lead at halftime.
  • Albertus knocked back the Trinity lead down to 50-39 after a layup from Scott inside the first minute of the third quarter. The two teams traded four consecutive threes as Avery Marzo hit a three, followed by one by Amanda Zdru (Stratford, Conn.). After Hannah Marzo hit another three for Trinity, Scott hit one for the Falcons to make it a 58-45 game with 6:38 left. Trinity took a 72-54 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Over the first 5:35 of the fourth quarter, the Falcons went on a 14-8 run to make it an 80-68 game. White scored the first five points for Albertus in the quarter followed by a three from Scott to start the run. Elizabeth Bruno (Providence, R.I.) came off the bench and scored four points during the opening stretch of the fourth. Albertus got the deficit down to 12 points one more time during the quarter, but Trinity pulled away over the final minutes. Scott scored nine points in the quarter.
