Simmons Stymies Women's Lacrosse

Boston, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost on the road to Simmons, 22-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Winsor Field. The Sharks improve to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 1-10 and 0-7 in conference contests with the setback.

Simmons controlled the ball and the tempo all game thanks to winning 23 of 25 draw controls and owning a 34-12 advantage in shots in the tilt.

Senior midfielder Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) tallied a goal and assisted on another for Albertus Magnus to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover, while sophomore attacker Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) found the back of the net as well for the Falcons.

In the cage, senior Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) turned aside 11 shots and had four ground balls for the guests in a losing effort. On the opposite side, first-year goalie Kenzie Rogers (Bourne, Mass.) earned the win after stopping all three shots she faced in the first half. In the second half, sophomore Chyenne Yeager (Indiana, Pa.) made three saves for the hosts.

Senior midfielder Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I.) tallied a career-high seven points, including three goals as one of 11 scorers for the Simmons. Malone Oliver's four assists were also a career-best for the Sharks. She added a pair of draw controls as well. Senior Alexa Faria (Cumberland, R.I.) racked up a career-high four points on two goals and two assists to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover, while classmate Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) netted three goals in addition to an assist, eight draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Freshman Kayleigh Joyce netted her first marker of the day with 2:46 left in the first half for her first collegiate score to give Simmons a 16-0 advantage. Classmate Amanda Koshivas (Ipswich, Mass.) also cashed in with her first career goal at the 18:09 mark of the second half for a 20-0 cushion for the Sharks.

 Junior defender Sara Rademacher (North Haven, Conn.) netted her first strike of the spring less than three minutes later on sophomore midfielder Kasey Fries' (Bridgewater, Mass.) second assist of the afternoon. Joyce's second tally was the final score of the day for Simmons, coming with 12:59 to go in the contest.

Jassil put the Falcons on the board with her 12th goal of the year on an assist from junior attacker Fekianne Charles (Bridgeport, Conn.) at the 7:11 mark. Jassil later found Luna for the last score of the day coming with 4:26 remaining in the match.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Tuesday, April 26, with a road conference clash with Lasell that is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
