  • 2012-13 GNAC All-Academic Team Announced

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced the All-Academic Team for the 2012-13 school year. Thirty-six student-athletes from Albertus Magnus College were among the 757 members of the Academic Team from 13 full-time institutions and 12 affiliate member institutions in the conference. The student-athletes selected had to meet the following criteria: maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, complete at least one full season of competition at a GNAC institution and is of sophomore status academically.

Hamasian has been chosen as the 2012 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year, while Zapata earns Rookie of the Year honors.

    Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) made a crucial save on the final penalty kick by Norwich’s Ryan Curley to secure the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament title for the Albertus Magnus men’s soccer team as the Falcons won the shootout 6-5. With the win, the Falcons will make their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance as the national bracket will be released on Monday at 1:00 p.m.

The Falcons will now advance to the semifinals where they will face Emerson College.

With the win, the Falcons finish the regular season with a 13-3-2 overall record along with an 8-1-1 showing in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

    Brothers Stephen Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) and Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) combined for the first four Falcon goals in an 8-1 rout of the Newbury College Nighthawks on Thursday. The Falcons dominated play from the outset, earning their 12th victory of the season, with just one regular-season contest remaining.

    Coast Guard scored three goals in the second half of play to go on to defeat the Albertus Magnus men’s soccer team 3-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday night in New London. John Tarzian scored two goals, while Greg Kennerley tallied assists on all three goals scored for the Bears.
