  • DeCarli named Conference SID of the Year

    Albertus Magnus College Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director Kristen DeCarli was voted the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Sports Information Director of the Year. The announcement was made by GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh in advance of the 2012 GNAC Professional Development Seminar on August 7 and 8 in Boston, Massachusetts. DeCarli will accept her award on the final day of the seminar.
  • 2011-12 GNAC All-Academic Team Announced

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced the All-Academic Team for the 2011-12 school year. Twenty-two student-athletes from Albertus Magnus College were among the 618 members of the Academic Team from 14 institutions in the conference.
  • Alumni Spotlight: Candice Giordano '03, Softball & Volleyball

    A volleyball and softball two-sport athlete, Candice Giordano Damico graduated from Albertus Magnus in 2003 as one of the finest softball pitchers in the history of the program. As a freshman, she finished second in the nation with 9.7 strikeouts per game en route to being named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference Second Team for her efforts.

    The Albertus Magnus Department of Athletics had a very successful 2011-12 year, producing two GNAC Regular-Season Championship teams, one GNAC Tournament Championship team, two All-Americans and 33 All-Conference Team selections.
  • Thuerling’s No-Hitter Lifts Falcons over New Rochelle 17-0

    A nine-run first inning paved the way for the Albertus Magnus softball team as the Falcons went on to defeat New Rochelle 17-0 in the semifinals of the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Danielle Thuerling (Wallingford, Conn.) struck out 10 as she threw her first collegiate no-hitter. Thuerling went five innings and was one walk away from a perfect game.

    The Albertus Magnus softball team fell to St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn) 8-0 in six innings in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Invitational Championship game on Saturday.
  • Maio Named to GNAC All-Conference Third Team

    Freshman Elaina Maio (West Haven, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus softball team has been named to the GNAC All-Conference Third Team as announced by the league on Sunday night. Maio led the Falcons with a .348 batting average during the regular season in 38 games played.

    Mount Ida edged the Albertus Magnus softball team 5-4 in game one of the Saturday afternoon double-header in Newton, Mass. Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) threw six innings, while allowing 14 hits and five runs. She also recorded a hit and an RBI for the Falcons in the loss.

    Emerson’s Kelsey Tuthill threw a one-hitter as the Lions defeated the Albertus Magnus softball team 9-0 in six innings on Friday afternoon. Albertus’ Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied the Falcons’ lone hit in the shutout loss.

The Falcons’ Aimee Mirto (Hamden, Conn.) finished the contest with one hit, two runs scored and two RBI to lead her team to victory.

    A three-run third inning lifted the Albertus Magnus softball team to a 5-1 final over Brooklyn College in game two of its Wednesday night double header. Albertus registered just two hits, while Brooklyn committed four errors, as the Falcons improved to 12-16 on the year.

  • Celebrate Frankie’s Birthday/Student-Athlete Appreciation Day

    Albertus Magnus College will celebrate the birthday of its mascot, Frankie the Falcon, in honor of Student-Athlete Appreciation Day on April 4. Student-Athlete Appreciation Day is honored annually on April 6 but with the day falling on Good Friday, Frankie’s birthday will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 4 at noon in the DeDominicis Dining Hall.
